Do you ever get those sudden, gut wrenching, mouth watering cravings for something sweet?

You’ve just finished a delicious, healthy dinner but an hour later you’re rummaging through the fridge and pantry trying to satisfy that craving for a ‘little something’. You find a packet of chocolate biscuits, some ice cream at the back of the freezer or left over cake from someone’s birthday. Then before you know it, you’ve managed to eat another day’s worth of calories of a ‘little something’!

Most people get cravings at some point of varying intensity. They can quickly destroy your clean, healthy diet and leave you with a sugar hangover and feeling guilty. Whilst we should all enjoy our food, including treats in moderation; dealing with cravings can lead to binge eating and an unhealthy mental attitude around food.

So the best way to deal with cravings is not to necessarily try and beat them! Don’t get sucked into playing the willpower game. Instead be prepared with some healthy and nourishing treats that aren’t going to blow out your diet or leave you feeling horrible (physically and emotionally). The best treats are ones that are not high in sugar, have some healthy fats for satiety, are quick to whip up and most importantly, taste downright delicious!

Here are some sweet-tooth-satisfying, healthy treats from that are ready in less than ten minutes.

raw chocolates are extra yummy in heart shapes!

Raw Choccie for One

2 tsp organic coconut oil, melted
1 tsp raw cacao powder
1 tsp organic butter, nut or seed butter
2-3 drops of Stevia

In a silicone muffin case, mix all the ingredients together until smooth. Pop in the freezer for 5 minutes to set. Eat and feel the sugar/chocolate cravings subside! Try adding in some shredded coconut, chopped nuts, mesquite powder, raw cacao nibs or dried/fresh fruit for different flavours.

Raw Beetroot Mousse

140g raw beetroot, peeled
1 1/2 cups raw cashews, soaked overnight
10 drops liquid Stevia
1 tbsp rice malt syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 tbsp organic coconut oil

Chop up the peeled, raw beetroot into chunks and add to your blender with the soaked cashews, Stevia, rice malt syrup, vanilla extract and melted coconut oil. In a high powered blender, blend on high, scraping down the sides until smooth and creamy (2-3 minutes depending on your blender). Spoon into glasses or small bowls; sprinkle with coconut flakes or chopped nuts.

coconut berries are one of my favourites sugar craving killers

Coconut Berries

1 tbsp organic coconut oil
1/4-1/2 cup organic berries
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Place the berries on a piece of baking paper on a plate, in a single layer. Drizzle the melted coconut oil over top, sprinkle with cinnamon and pop in the freezer for 5 minutes to set.

Nom-Nom Yoghurt Mousse

80g organic yoghurt
1 tsp raw cacao powder (optional)
1 tbsp chopped macadamias
1/4 cup fresh blueberries or raspberries
1 tbsp dark chocolate chips or raw cacao nibs

Mix all ingredients and eat! Use coconut yoghurt if you are dairy-free.

Choc Mint Protein Pudding

1 scoop chocolate pea protein
1-2 drops liquid Stevia
2 tsp raw cacao
1/2 tsp peppermint extract (or other flavour)
water (add a little at a time)

Mix all ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Add the water slowly, mix it up whilst it’s thick first and then add a little to thin it out to a pudding consistency. Serve with fresh berries, chopped nuts, raw cacao nibs etc for different flavours.
