I made this super easy breakfast smoothie for my Nourish + GROW group of mums who are testing out kid and family friendly recipes for me. Breakfast is of course one of those sometimes tricky meals to squeeze into the day, especially for kids, so I wanted to do something that was ridiculously easy and nourishing. Plus you can drink this on the go!

I personally work best with protein and fats in the morning, but on my higher carb days, I do enjoy oats before my training and the carbs are fantastic fuel. Kids on the other hand have boundless energy and can easily burn through more carbohydrates so this smoothie is the perfect start to the day for them! Good quality, whole food carbs are still important for growing bodies though – it’s not an excuse to just load up on cheap crappy sugars.

You could easily add some protein powder to this and it’s a great pre or post workout meal too.

Serves 2

80g gluten free oats
2 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp honey
150g organic yoghurt
100g frozen organic blueberries
150-200ml water or Coconut water
optional add-ins:
desiccated coconut, cinnamon,
raw cacao etc…

First, mix the chia seeds with about 1/4-1/3 cup water, stirring every few minutes until a gel forms.
Then just, add all the ingredients to a high powered blender and blend for about 30 secs until smooth.
Pour and drink immediately or store in containers / glass jars and pop in the fridge overnight.

That’s my Optimum 9200 blender in the photo. I love love love my Optimum blender! As someone who has burnt out no less than FOUR blenders previously, my “Beasty” blender is now my favourite kitchen appliance. I use it almost every day and it blends quickly, smoothly and surprisingly quietly through everything I have chucked in it. Nut butter and frozen bananas are easy! 😉

I highly recommend if you are looking for a new blender or are sick of your current one, then do check out the Froothie range. Far cheaper but better quality than many of the other brands too, and Australian owned.

You can order your own Optimum blender too!
