Although the weather is turning cooler here in Sydney, I have a few delicious and healthy smoothie recipes that I wanted to share with you. They all use the yummy Complete Shakes in either French Vanilla or Dutch Chocolate. You could try them with other protein, such as Sunwarrior, but I can’t vouch for the taste as the Complete is so delicious!

5 Reasons to Love Healthy Smoothies

1. You can get still stick to a whole food diet but in convenient liquid form. Whilst I always advocate eating whole food meals, the smoothies that I make are basically nutrient dense whole food meals in liquid form. They are perfect for prepping ahead and having an on-the-go breakfast or afternoon meal.

2. They are SO refreshing in the warmer weather, especially if you freeze them it’s like having ice cream. OR make it like a smoothie bowl for a delicious treat.

3. You can pack a lot of nutrition in and that makes it easier to hit your micro and macro balance for the day. Let’s face it, sometimes eating 5-6 meals a day is a pain in the backside so I like to add in a smoothie sometimes to make sure I’ve still firing up the metabolism and my blood sugar doesn’t drop. (Note that the 5-6 meals a day works for me, I’m not saying you have to eat that often, but experiment with your food timing and quantities on your energy levels).

4. They are really quick and easy to whip up. No excuses for grabbing the 2 minute noodles when you can make a nutrient dense smoothie full of goodness in 2 minutes!

5. You can sneak in extra servings of veggies. Don’t like your greens that much? If you have a great tasting protein like the Complete, then you can add in a few cups of leafy greens or veggies and not even taste them. This is great for the kids too – if it makes the smoothie green, just call it a Monster Shake or Super Slime Smoothie!

For all these recipes, the method is pretty simple – add everything to a high powered blender and blend smooth! Add in any leafy greens first and the heavier ingredients on top to make it easier. Check out the Froothie blenders too, I swear by these beasty blenders, they pulverise any smoothie to a creamy, dreamy consistency.

The carbohydrates in these healthy smoothie recipes are medium to high (depending upon your goals and macros of course), so I like these generally for post workout or breakfast. However, you can always reduce a bit of the fruit if you need to reduce the carbohydrates – but keep in mind these are good quality carbs with lots of fibre for steady blood sugar. We need carbs for energy and brain function too!

Add these healthy smoothie recipes to your weekly nutrition and you’ll be glowing from the inside out in no time!
