It’s funny how the universe plonks things in your path exactly at the right time that you’re ready. Frustrating sometimes too, when you *think* you were ready for ages before, but really in hindsight, it’s easy to see now that it is the perfect timing.

I’ve just had one of these weeks. Actually this happens all the time but this particular week just felt especially epic. I was away in the beautiful Hunter Valley at the Chateau Elan for our leaders retreat from Tuesday to Thursday (massage and infrared sauna yes!) and then at the Swissotel in Sydney for our annual conference from Friday to Sunday. It was an amazing week (as conference always is) and my business is going crazy because I have stepped up. I could not be more excited right now with all the amazing new team joining me lately – meeting so many amazing, beautiful, slightly crazy health nuts like me is awesome!

Anyway, one of the main themes from our conference was the two concepts of paying it forward and failing forward. Some very simple, yet powerful rules to apply to your daily life. Then just this week, I realised it was time to run my last giveaway for you all in partnership with Fitness First. This month is suitably based around the very same theme of “Pay it forward”. Coincidence or the universe at it’s best?

Pay it forward.

This beautiful concept is perhaps best illustrated by the age old Italian tradition of Caffè sospeso or “suspended coffee”. Caffè sospeso is a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of charity. This tradition began in the working-class cafés of Naples, where someone who had experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one. A poor person enquiring later whether there was a sospeso available would then be served a coffee for free.

A simple act for one person that impacts another in a far more profound way.

The concept of paying it forward is something that myself and my partner John, try to do on a daily basis. In fact, we recently started literally doing Caffè sospeso at our local cafe. Aside from coffee though, we look to help others improve their lives, achieve their goals and give back where we can. It’s quiet amazing when you focus on helping others, in turn, you become more successful.

Fail forward.

This one I really love. I regularly have women sending me messages and emails, telling me how they have failed at their diet/training. Even worse, they are completely ridden with guilt. I see it all over social media and in the faces of people I cross paths with daily.

This idea of failing as a negative thing is poisonous. In our home, we only fail forward.

As you grew up as a child, you constantly learned everything through failing. When you train at the gym, your progress comes from failing on reps. You build strength, character, discipline and conviction through failing. Every failure is just another step towards success, you just have to learn to accept it, fail forward and keep moving towards your goals.

So I’m very excited about what Fitness First has allowed me to do this month as a part of their pay it forward campaign. I would you to help share these two messages too – please share one or both of these images on your social media and hashtag it #payitforward or #failforward.
